Break through?

Researchers from Cern at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva announced today that they may have glimpsed the Higgs boson (aka god particle). I have no idea why they don't know if they saw it or not, but I guess when you are dealing with the fabric of the universe, it's tricky.
